Well, we tied the boats securely to the rack, but hadn’t really anticipated that the metal rack would collapse and tilt over in the high winds. Lesson learned! We were extremely lucky that the rigger of Maas boat on the top right jammed into the fence to keep the rack from collapsing further, and the already damaged double (boat number 211) held up a cross piece of the rack and thus protected the other boats.

In the photos above, you can see how the rack that should be straight up and down has collapsed over. And our little shed blew off its platform and was only stopped by the bin to the left. Janice (aka “Super Janice”) managed to get the little shed back on its platform, and a work party yesterday consisting of Janice, Ian, Marla and Jocelyn, dealt with the rack. All boats were unloaded onto the little trailers and checked for damage. The rack was straightened but we decided to leave the boats on the trailers since another major storm is predicted for tonight and tomorrow. We want the boats as low to the ground as possible. Only the oars were placed on the rack (on the bottom) and have been tied down.

We’ll have to do another check after the predicted “bomb cyclone” has passed through tonight and tomorrow. Fingers crossed that all will be safe and sound. People too!
