On Sunday (Sept 28) we held a self-rescue session at Elk Lake for the new UVic Coastal Rowing Club and then after for our OARCA Novices. The water was relatively warm (around 18 degrees) and it was dry with only a light breeze. Our rowers rowed a bit out into the lake and then had to get into the water. I said “jump” into the water and one took me literally!
Every got to practice and everyone got in. We had both doubles and solos. One solo with with a stern mounted rigger and the other with a bow mounted rigger.

Once the UVic students were finished, it was time for our OARCA Novices. No big leaps into the water but all did a great job and got into the boats.
The consensus was that it was a great thing to do and everyone now feels more confident in the boats. They wonder when they can do it again since it was such fun.
